The Commencement of Project for Strengthening BAKAMLA's Capacity

On 20 February 2024, the Technical Cooperation Project between JICA and BAKAMLA which titled “Project for Strengthening BAKAMLA's Capacity” commence with the training activity. It was held in BAKAMLA’s newly established “Anambas” Maritime Training Center in Batam that was funded by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL). Consequently, to enhance BAKAMLA's competence, indirect aid coordination was realized with the United States.

Previously, JICA and BAKAMLA have signed the Record of Discussion on October 24, 2023 as a form mutual agreement to execute the project. Having the 44 months period, the activity of the Project will cover the dispatch of experts; the provision of equipment; and the training conducted in Indonesia and Japan as well as other countries. Through these components, the project will establish human resource development system for BAKAMLA, strengthen its capacity to conduct training and enhance its capabilities for inter-organizations. Thereby, this project will develop knowledge and skills of BAKAMLA’s personnel to perform their functions, furthermore, it will contribute to improving BAKAMLA’s maritime law enforcement and case response capabilities.

The first training in Batam that marked the project commencement was the Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE) Training which covers Arresting Technique including safety management on the rib boat. The training program held for 4 days combined the in-class lecture and exercise.
