Capacity Building for Municipal Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycle (3R)

From 4 to 22 of November, JICA welcomed 16 officials from 11 cities across Iran to Japan for an intensive, hands-on experience.

Over the course of the program, participants have learned,
-Cutting edge intermediate waste processing facilities
-Advanced incineration and recycling centers
-Japan’s renowned Eco-Towns and circular economy initiatives
-Factory that produce animal feed from food waste
-Biogas power generator factories

Furthermore, numerous theoretical courses covering diverse topics were held, featuring prominent professors from Japan and the active participation of Iranian experts.
These topics included:

  • "Development and Challenges of Waste Management"
  • "Stakeholder Analysis and Formulation of Waste Management Improvement Plans"
  • "Intermediate Processing and its Role in Urban Planning"
  • "The Legal System of Waste Management in Japan and Basic Policy"
  • "Intermediate Treatment Technology for the Waste Resource Cycle"
  • "Waste Management Stemming from Crisis and Natural Disasters"
  • "Eco-Town Policy for Resource Cycling and the Zero Waste Plan"
  • "Biological and Mechanical Treatment"
  • ...and others.

We anticipate that participants will effectively translate the knowledge and best practices acquired in Japan into tangible actions within their home cities, thereby contributing significantly to improved environmental sustainability.
