Press Release Third Country Training Program “Integrated Crop Management（ICM）for tropical fruits for Palestinians”

JICA Malaysia Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and “Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI)”, will organize the Third Country Training Program (TCTP)” Integrated crop management（ICM）for tropical fruits for Palestinians“ from 17 November 2024 - to 1 December 2024.

TCTP is a type of technical cooperation whereby JICA in partnership with one developing country organises a training course in the said country and invite participants from other developing countries to participate. The purpose of such training program is to share Japan and Malaysia’s experience in the particular field and strengthen capacity of the participants to deal with various development issues in their own country.

In Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia has been implementing the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) since the year 1980 and have been jointly implementing TCTP with JICA since 1992.

For this TCTP, the MARDI will be the training institute and will accept 16 trainees from Palestine to provide training on management for tropical fruits. The outline of the training is as follows.

Overview:
In this course, MARDI as the Training Institution will share Malaysia’s experiences and best practices in Integrated crop management (ICM）for tropical fruits for Palestinians including pest and disease management. They will also have the chance to understand Malaysia’s effort to maintain food security in a time where changes in climatic conditions increase these losses. The 14-days physical course includes:

• Introduction to tropical fruit promotion in Malaysia
• Introduction to various grafting technique of tropical fruits in Malaysia
• Site visit to local farms, orchards of tropical fruits, local companies and organizations
