【Press Release】Implementation of Training for Occupational Safety and Health Management for Asian Countries
2026.07.30
JICA Malaysia Office in collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia will host a Third-Country Training Program (*1) titled “Occupational Safety and Health Management for Asian Countries” for officials from the Asian countries in Kuala Lumpur from August 03 to 14, 2026.
In the field of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), the implementation and enforcement of legislation, as well as workplace inspections, remain inadequate in many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the manufacturing, construction, and plantation sectors across developing countries in Asia. Consequently, preventable workplace accidents continue to occur, often resulting in serious injuries and, in some cases, fatalities.
In light of these issues, DOSH Malaysia, as one of the leading agencies of the regional network, ASEAN OSH NET, will share Malaysia’s success stories, shortcomings and lesson learnt in managing occupational safety and health in order to better understand best strategies, approaches and methodologies to improve occupational safety and health standard in Malaysia. At the same time, JICA Malaysia office has also invited a total of 4 experienced Japanese volunteers to deliver lectures from the Japanese perspective and experiences on OSH issues. DOSH Malaysia will host 15 trainees from a total of 7 countries in Asian.
*1 “Third-Country Training Program (TCTP)”: A type of technical cooperation in which JICA provides financial and technical support for training programs in which one developing country hosts trainees from another developing country. The main objective of TCTP is to share the experiences of Japan and Malaysia in specific fields and to strengthen the trainees’ ability to address various challenges in their home countries. In this region, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been implementing the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP) since 1980, and since 1992, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JICA have been jointly conducting TCTPs.
