From Climate Ambition to Finance and Innovation: Japan–Malaysia Dialogues at IGEM 2026 -Exploring Opportunities in Green Growth, Circular Economy, Carbon Credits and Nature Conservation-
2026.10.05
JICA Malaysia Office will participate as a co-organiser of the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2026, to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 7 to 9 October 2026.
Specifically, JICA will co-host high-level sessions with the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), and Malaysia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) and organise Pocket Talk seminars in collaboration with partner organisations.
The 70th anniversary of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) cooperation with Malaysia and the 60th anniversary of the dispatch of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) to Malaysia also mark important milestones in bilateral cooperation. To commemorate these milestones, JICA’s booth (No. 1005) will showcase the history of bilateral cooperation alongside current initiatives on climate action, biodiversity conservation, and related areas.

It will also share Japan’s experience in nature conservation and initiatives to enhance carbon market transparency and alignment with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Drawing on both market and non-market approaches, the session will present examples of Japan–Malaysia cooperation and opportunities to mobilise finance for climate action and biodiversity conservation. Event 2 will present the Malaysia Forest Fund’s (MFF) forest conservation financing mechanisms, alongside initiatives from Japan’s private sector, including wetland-based nature-based solutions and the use of biodiversity-related data and technology. Bringing together public- and private-sector expertise from both countries, the session will explore new opportunities for collaboration that combine finance and innovation to advance biodiversity conservation and sustainability.
• Agenda and further details: See Annex 2.
JICA will continue to work with Malaysian institutions and public- and private-sector partners in Japan to advance climate action and biodiversity conservation.
