The Project for the Reconstruction of Minato Bridge Groundbreaking

The groundbreaking of The Project for the Reconstruction of Minato Bridge was held on July 17, 2025 in Koror, Palau.
The new bridge will strengthen and ensure smooth traffic between Malakal Island and Koror Island by replacing the existing deteriorating bridge. The reconstruction of the new Minato Bridge will be adjacent to the existing bridge. The Minato Bridge serves a vital role in Palau’s economy and environmental well-being. Palau’s main commercial port, the sewage treatment plant, bulk fuel storage facilities, a power generating plant, several hotels and restaurants and numerous businesses are located on Malakal Island. The Minato Bridge is the only link to these facilities.
The bridge will be a two lane traffic with footpath on both sides, approach roads from both sides.
Culvert Box 1 (located next to Sea Passion Hotel) is included in the project. The culvert has also deteriorated and need immediate slab reconstruction includes repair and widening.
The $12,158,637 (1,776,000,000 Yen) Project is implemented through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Consultants for this project is a joint venture of CTI Engineering International Co. Ltd., and Pacific Consultants Co., Ltd. and Tobishima Corporation as contractor. The client, the Bureau of Public Works, with the efforts the Koror State Government and other stakeholders have worked tirelessly to make this project a reality since 2013.
The construction period is expected to last until April 30, 2027.
