2024.01.04

On 1st December, 70 children in the Third Grade of Sogeri Primary School had a cultural exchange program with children from 3 Primary schools in Japan through an online video meeting. This program includes a primary school in the hometown (Nara Prefecture, Japan) of one of JICA volunteers for Sogeri Primary School, Mr. Uchiyama Shota.

In the exchange class, Japanese children introduced local specialties and places of interest in the area where their schools are located, and Sogeri Primary School children introduced the displays inside their classrooms, mango trees in the school, the large schoolyard, and sang the Papua New Guinea’s National Anthem for the Japanese students.

The children asked each other’s questions in English, such as their favorite sports, what clothes do they wear to school? What do they eat for lunch? Their eyes lit up with new discoveries and things they did not know. Children from Sogeri Primary School said, "I was surprised at how different our school is from Japan! and I want to know more about Japan and visit Japan someday”.

The children's exchange experience across the oceans will continue in the future.
