Keep Sogeri Station Clean

2024.07.25
On Thursday, 25 July, about 90 Grade 4 students from the Sogeri Primary School participated in a cleanup activity around the Sogeri Station. Through Science lessons taught by JICA volunteer, the students learned the importance of protecting the natural environment and took action to preserve the rich natural surroundings of the Sogeri area.
The children were divided into 2 groups, 1 group collecting combustible and plastic waste, and the other gathering empty bottles and cans. It was a fun activity for the students at the same time while collecting rubbish. During the 2-hours spent, they collected combustible waste, 450 plastic bottles, 153 empty bottles, and 32 empty aluminum cans. Also through sorting valuable waste, they learned about the importance of recycling.
Many of the participating students voiced their recognition that littering is wrong after engaging in the cleanup. The Head Teacher of Sogeri Primary School remarked that through this activity, the children learned to think about different types of waste and which can be recycled, and they hope to apply this knowledge to protect Sogeri’s natural environment.
The Efforts to connect Papua New Guinea’s rich natural heritage to the future will continue.
