Japanese School & Supervisors visit Sogeri Primary School
2024.08.08
Japanese students are currently enjoying their summer holidays whilst several of their respective school managers and supervisors have travelled to PNG for a week tour to observe the PNG Schools’ Education System. The 13 members accompanied by 3 JICA staff members visited the Sogeri Primary School on Tuesday 30th July where two of the JICA volunteers, Mr. Todaka and Mr. Uchiyama, have been serving since 2023.
The day’s program included observations of the class sessions, school facilities, presentations by the Japan team; followed by a group discussion between the team and the Sogeri Primary School Teachers. During the tour, a team was also seen teaching math to students.
Head Teacher of the Sogeri Primary School expressed gratitude to the visitors and stated that the school has progressed positively since the JICA volunteers joined the team.
Mrs Maiha, a Grade 4 Teacher also expressed overwhelming joy in seeing the students enjoying their lessons and always anticipating the next exchange video call sessions with fellow students in Japan. JICA hopes that this visitation will strengthen the exchange program with Schools in Japan and foster an Education System of PNG where the standard curriculum is integrated with cross-curriculum studies ; enabling the student to experience life challenges in the real world outside the classrooms.
In concluding the program, a Vice Principal, Ms. KITANO Mari on behalf of the visiting team, thanked Sogeri Primary School for the warm welcome and expressed interest in supporting JICA’s volunteer initiative moving forward.
