Third Presentation of Masters Thesis and Training Reports in 2024

JICA hosted its Third Scholars Presentation for 2024 on Friday 15th November 2024. The event was proudly supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs. There were 4 presenters consisting of 2 scholars (Ms. Josephine Bade and Mr. Ale Justine) and 2 KCCP short training presenters (Ms. Kendil Miti and Mr. Benny Dickson).

The event saw officers from both countries including the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Elias Wohengu, Deputy Chief of Mission from Embassy of Japan, Mr. TAMAMITSU Shinichi and JICA PNG Chief Representative, Mr. MATSUOKA Hideaki together with the scholars who shared valuable insight on Japan’s assistance through its training programs.

In his keynote speech, Mr. Wohengu reflected on the countless support PNG has received from Japan for over 50 years (1974-2024), especially assistance in Economic Growth, infrastructure, Social Service and Environment and Climate Change sectors. Under Social Service, in the education sector, he acknowledged Japan’s support from the primary school level through the volunteer program to the training programs which has seen public servants graduate from universities in Japan with certificates, Masters and PhD returning to PNG to further strengthen our Human Resource Development Goals and Objectives.

Scholars from Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Josephine Bade (University of Niigata Prefecture from 2022 – 2024 ), presented her thesis on “Securitization of IUU fishing in the South Pacific Region” and Mr. Justin Ale (Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University from 2022 - 2024) presented his thesis on “the Assessment of Foreign Policy Engagements of China and the US in the Pacific Region: A Comparative Perspective from Power Modes and Institution Modalities”.
Mr. Dickson Benny from NARI presented his study on “Vegetable Production Technology for Livelihood improvement of small-scale farmers” and Ms. Kendil Miti from the Department of Community Development & Religion ended the session with her presentation on the “Gender Mainstreaming Policies for Government Officers”

Mr. Justin Ale of the Department of Foreign Affairs presents his research on "An Assessment of Foreign Policy Engagements."

Ms. Josephine Bade from Department of Foreign Affairs, graduated from the University of Niigata Prefecture presenting her thesis on “Securitization of IUU fishing in the South Pacific Region”.

Mr. Benny Dickson from NARI, a KCCP short term training participant presented his study on Vegetable production Technology for livelihood improvement of small-scale farmers.

Ms. Miti Kendil, from the Department of Community Development & Religion, a KCCP short term training participant presented her study on Gender Mainstreaming Policies for Government Officers.

Mr. Tamamitsu and Mr. Matsuoka acknowledged the JICA Alumni Association for actively supporting the Human Resource Development of this country and urged the four training participants to use knowledge and skills acquired through the trainings to strengthen the human resource and to continue to foster diplomatic ties between PNG and Japan for the years to come.
