Introduction of Projects
Background of the Project :
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from developing countries accounts for about half of the global GHG emissions. Although a significant emission reduction is achieved, without effective GHG mitigations in developed countries stabilization of GHG concentrations in the atmosphere will not be accomplished. Therefore, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change stipulates those developing countries to take measures to minimize the adverse effects of climate change. Formulation of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) is an immediate priority in Serbia and other developing countries.
However, Serbia is facing barriers that prevent formulation of NAMAs. One of the barriers is the lack of human resources who have sufficient skills and experiences to develop and formulate effective NAMAs.
To solve such problems and also to achieve GHG emission reduction at national level by the year 2020, the Government of Serbia requested the Government of Japan in August 2009 technical assistance for formulation of climate change mitigation measures and NAMAs.

- 1) General understanding on NAMAs and measurement, reporting and verification is enhanced.

- 3) Capacity to produce documents to promote implementation of NAMAs is developed.
- 4) Capacity to promote recognition of NAMAs is enhanced.
