In July 2001, the first JICA volunteer was dispatched to Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. Since then, more than 800 volunteers have worked in communities across Uganda. In 2026, JICA volunteers in Uganda celebrate the 25th anniversary of their activities in the country.

JICA volunteers work together with local people in a wide range of fields, including health, education, agriculture, community development, and sports. Through their activities, they contribute to solving local challenges and developing human resources. Their work is not only about sharing skills and knowledge, but also about building friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Uganda.

Over the past 25 years, the program has faced many challenges, including the global COVID-19 pandemic and Ebola outbreaks. Even during these difficult times, the strong partnership between Japan and Uganda has continued, supported by many people in both countries.
