Voices of JICA Ex-participants: Ms. Flavia Zabali Musisi

2020.04.29

My name is Flavia Zabali Musisi working with Kampala Capital City Authority as a GIS Supervisor. Between 23rd September and 31st October, 2019, I was privileged to attend the JICA Comprehensive City Planning training in Tokyo, Japan.
I was pleasantly amazed by the Japanese way of life that is heavily punctuated with high levels of respect, discipline and time keeping.

As a professional Town Planner, Japan's city planning models exposed me to the best practices in understanding the synchronized implementation of land use and Transport planning processes and how these should be incorporated into our own scenario if we are to talk about meaningful city planning in Kampala.

Much as the training schedule was compact, I took off time to enjoy the culture; the healthy cuisines mainly and my favorite were the Udon Noodles and Sushi wrapped with sea weed.
I also visited many tourist sites during leisure time and through these, I also appreciated the need for Kampala to prioritize Mass Rapid Transit for easy access to different places in minimal time.

I will forever be grateful to JICA for this golden opportunity that not only broadened my professional perspective on city planning but also gave me a positively insightful and unique outlook on life as viewed from the eyes of the Japanese. Arigato!
