JICA Uganda office had a chat with Ms. Wanyera Maris, the Acting Director for Cash and Debt Policy, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda (MoFPED).

Ms. Maris is an ex-participant of JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program (KCCP) “Collaborative program between World bank and JICA - Assessing and Managing Debt-Related Fiscal Risks” in February 2023.

The KCCP “Collaborative program between WB and JICA” was started in 2016 and aimed at equipping participants with knowledge on how to identify and classify the key types of debt-related Contingent Liabilities and understand a framework for Contingent Liabilities risk management.

In the last program held in February 2023, participants had fulfilling days through the workshop session by the World bank for 6 days, several lectures from the Ministry of Finance in Japan and individual consultation session with JICA Headquarter.

Ms. Maris returned to Uganda with a lot of useful knowledge.

Lecturers provided rich explanation on how to manage its fiscal credit risks and original State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) analysis tool. She utilizes and improves this SOE analysis tool with her team members to assess the credit risk of each enterprise more precisely.

Further cooperation

JICA will continue to improve the contents to make KCCP more effective for all participants and is looking forward to meeting a next participant from Uganda in Japan!
