Grant aid-signing ceremony of the Project for the Improvement of Medical Equipment at Regional Referral Hospitals

On the 26th of March 2024, the JICA Uganda Chief Representative; Mr. INOUE Yoichi signed a Grant Agreement with the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Hon. Minister Matia Kasaija worth up to JPY 941 million (approx. USD 6.8), for the Project for the Improvement of Medical Equipment at Regional Referral Hospitals (RRHs). This followed an earlier Signing of the Exchange of Notes for the same between the Counsellor – the Embassy of Japan to Uganda; Mr. YOSHIMURA Tomotaka and Hon. Kasaija.
With this grant financing, the project will procure Soroti RRH and Jinja RRH with medical equipment such as anaesthesia machines, ultrasound scanners, and gastroendoscopes among others to energize the healthcare service delivery at both RRHs for the maximum benefit to the people in the regions around the hospitals.
Health being a very fundamental sector as emphasised by Hon. Kasaija during the signing ceremony, JICA will continue to support Uganda’s development process through improvement of health and well-being.

The Signing Ceremony was attended by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, the Counsellor – Embassy of Japan to Uganda, the Under Secretary of Ministry of Health, and the JICA Uganda Chief Representative.
