On May 1st, 2017 Japan International Cooperation Agency - (JICA) has officially opened its Representative Office in Georgia which is the first JICA Office in the Caucasus Region.
We JICA have been implementing several projects in Georgia such as ‘East-West Highway Improvement Project' (Loan project), ‘The Project for Introduction of Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System' (Grant project), Public-Private Partnerships project and Training Programs.
One of our major projects in Georgia is ‘East-West Highway Improvement Project'. I believe that the highway will become not only a foundation of the logistics, but also will play a very important role in the regional development, which will certainly empower people in the rural areas and strengthen the Georgian economy.
In addition to the implementation of the abovementioned ongoing projects, from now on we would like to expand our assistance to Georgia through other schemes such as Technical Cooperation, JICA Partnership Programs, Dispatching of the Volunteers, etc.
Furthermore, we expect that the activities of the Japanese private companies will be promoted here since information on Georgia will become more accessible through our newly established office. Our office will assist Japanese companies entering the Georgian market in the framework of ODA.
JICA values Georgia as an important partner, thus our new office will make an effort to deepen cooperation with Georgian counterparts and leverage their technical expertise by showing Georgian people how we work together to build prosperity and get over the challenges. I hope that our dialogue and cooperation will be stronger than ever and contribute to further development of Georgia and strengthen the relations between Japan and Georgia.
