Emergency Disaster Relief Supplies

The government of Japan donated Emergency Relief Supplies to the government of Jamaica on the 27th August, 2007 at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica. Handing over the Disaster Relief Supplies was His Excellency Masahiro Obata, Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica directly to Mr. Ronald Jackson, Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Jamaica.

In his remarks the Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica expressed sympathy:
"On behalf of the Government and People of Japan I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Government and People of Jamaica on the recent devastation brought on by Hurrican Dean and hope that you will be able to quickly overcome the hardship with great resilience.

Out of humanitarian consideration for persons affected by Hurricane Dean, as well as in view of the friendly relations that exist between Jamaica and Japan the government and People of Japan have decided to make a donation totaling 15 million yen, approximately US$129,000.- worth of emergency aid materials to the Government and people of Jamaica. The materials include: blankets, water tanks, plastic sheets, generators, reels of electric cord and water purifiers. On behalf of the Government and People of Japan, I would like to take this opportunity to hand over the supply of emergency aid to the Government and People of Jamaica and sincerely hope that our assistance will provide some for of relief for the affected persons. Thank You.:"

Mr. Ronald Jackson, Director General of ODPEM, expressed appreciation for the emergency relief supplies, commending the government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, which provided aid in such an efficient and speedy manner. Mr. Jackson assured the Japanese Ambassador that the emergency supplies would be handed over to the most needy in his society affected in the aftermath of Hurricane Dean.
