Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA) Water Supply Project

Developed as a “comprehensive project to address the need to increase the availability, and to improve the quality of water supply to the Kingston Metropolitan Area,” this National Water Commission project consisted of four (4) major implementation components:

  • Rehabilitation of existing water supply facilities
  • Development of new water supplies
  • Protection of groundwater resources
  • Engineering and institutional strengthening consulting services.

The National Water Commission/Ministry of Water & Housing, implemented this ODA Loan Project, with JICA providing vital technical and financial assistance to provide improved water supply also to the Greater Spanish Town and South East St. Catherine areas.

Financing was provided by JICA through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (formerly JBIC) for the amount of 6,644 million Yen i.e. US$55.8 million with the Government of Jamaica providing J$1,650 million or US$24.8 Million.
