JICA's CR attends ALB Handover Ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)

On 7th June 2021, the Chief Representative JICA, Mr. Hajime Iwama attended the handing over ceremony of the Agricultural Laboratory Building (ALB) at JKUAT.

Present in this ceremony was the CS for Education; Prof. George Magoha, Japan Ambassador to Kenya; Mr. Horie Ryoichi, JKUAT Council Chairman; Amb. Ahboub Maalim Mohamed, JKUAT VC; Prof. Victoria Ngumi among other notable guests.

The ALB adds onto the list of support extended to JKUAT from the government of Japan, which dates many decades ago since 1977. Over the years, this support has greatly reinforced the position of JKUAT to become one of the leading universities in Kenya whose popularity continues to grow widely. The ALB boasts 3 state of the art laboratories and 6 lecture halls that can host a capacity of 300 students. This new building will further promote the research capacity for JKUAT to develop solutions for local challenges through Science Technology and Innovation (STI), which is a critical force in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On his part, the CS appreciated the great contribution that JICA has been making in the country, which has strengthened the great relationship between Kenyan Government and the Government of Japan. The CS further stressed on the need to link universities and the industry for sustainable growth. JICA is currently supporting JKUAT on this spectrum in collaboration with Japanese private firms.
