Handover Event: JICA provides refrigerators for vaccines against Covid-19

On April 1 2022, JICA Mozambique Office handed over 22 portable vaccine refrigerators to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Mozambique. The handover event was organized at the Ministry of Health headquarters, in Maputo, Mozambique.

The refrigerators handed over are compact, portable and have an ultra-cold freezer of an advanced technology manufactured by Japanese Twinbird Corporation. These refrigerators represent the first lot of equipment that JICA will deliver to the Mozambican Government under the Japanese Programme for Covid-19 Crisis Response Emergency Support.

During the handover event, JICA Chief Representative in Mozambique, Mr. Hitoshi Matsumoto, indicated the positive long-lasting cooperation between JICA and MoH and expressed hope that the equipment will be quickly delivered at all provinces in Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Mr. Leonildo Nhampossa, National Director for the Enlarged Immunization Program, as representative of MoH, said that currently Mozambique is in high need of exothermic boxes, especially in the provinces, to respond not only for Covid-19 as well as for polio ongoing vaccination campaign. As such, he mentioned that these refrigerators represent an excellent input equipment for the Mozambican health sector.

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues threatening people's lives all over the world and challenging the health systems of developing countries such as Mozambique, JICA continues its effort to support the improvement of the health sector and Covid-19 emergency response in Mozambique.
