JICA and Myanma Port Authority (MPA) are to rehabilitate facilities for navigation to improve Vessel Traffic in Yangon River

JICA and Myanma Port Authority (MPA), Ministry of Transport and Communications agreed to rehabilitate navigation-related facilities which are required for smooth vessel traffic in Yangon River. Through the rehabilitation of lighthouses and buoys, as well as installation of marine observation facilities, it is expected to improve the efficiency and safety of vessel logistics around Yangon area and beyond.

Besides the construction works, the Project will also provide capacity development of MPA's officials and staff members by providing technical training on navigation aids, developing manuals, and capacity development on weather/ river observation, which will contribute the safety in navigation.

The "Project for the Rehabilitation of Vessel Traffic Navigation Aids in Yangon River" will be implemented for two years under the Japanese Grant Aid, utilizing 1.399 Billion Japanese Yen maximum.


PhotoYangon Port is handling approximately 90% of the import cargo and it became an urgent matter to rehabilitate the navigation facilities to correspond with the increasing number of cargo handling and navigation.

PhotoThrough rehabilitation of vessel traffic navigation aids such as light houses, buoy and meteorological oceanographic observatory, logistics efficiency will be improved as well as sustainable economic growth will be contributed in Myanmar.
