Workshop for local community conducted in Western Highlands Province

October 7, 2014, awareness meeting for the community people around the pilot site "Kuta road" was conducted by DoW in Western highlands province to get understanding from the community people to implement the pilot project.

The venue was Kuta Primary school along the Kuta road. The school has beautiful and spacious lawn ground that is very salubrious place. Students attending this school are more than 500, from grade 1 to grade 8, age from 8 to 15 year old. Many of students attend school from a distance.

The number of main participants is 17, consists of Councilor, leaders and teachers and more than 100 audience gathered at the school.

Councilor Mr. Peter Raim was the chair and leading the meeting with Provincial Works Manager (PWM) of Dow, Mr. Mathew Windi.

At first, the Councilor explained the purpose of this workshop to the local community people. Next, JICA team expert Mr. Yasuo Nakada explained outline of the project and the importance of security and appealed for no land dispute while the JICA road maintenance work is on. Then, Mr. Nakada requested cooperation with regards to protection of work staff and heavy equipment during the work, cleaning of the road after maintenance.

Finally, PWM also described the purpose of this project and requested cooperation of local community.

Other leaders and community people welcomed and expressed various opinions with a most probable hope that Kuta road that was disconnected by land slide about 12 years ago will finally be reinstated.

Now the project members clearly acknowledge their roles and responsibilities to connect the road, connect the people and support the community.
