OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

Develop master plans of ecovillage in the 3 target regions;
Establish an ecovillages platform;
Capacity development of the implementing organization and others organizations concerned in the achievement of ecovillages.

PROJECT SUMMARY

The National Program of Ecovillages has been initiated by the Government of Senegal to implement an holistic approach of rural development which includes economic development, environmental protection and improvement of living conditions of rural populations. According to the National Program of Ecovillages, the four components of Ecovillages are:

1 . Good local governance;
2 . Food security;
3 . Renewable energy and efficiency in energy;
4 . Private sector promotion and sustainable financing.

National and regional plateforms of Ecovillage are established and master plans of ecovillages will be established in the 3 target regions.
In 2013, the following activities have been taken place in order to establish the system to increase efficiently the number of Ecovillages in Senegal:

Establishment of national and regional of ecovillageplatforms in Thies, Fatick and Kaolack regions.
An inventory of villages which collected the status of the four components of ecovillages about 5.000 targeted regions of the project;
As part of the pilote activities, the project is working on the improvement through the production of solar pumps in zone of Niayes.
