OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

• Identification of the needs of the health sector;
• Strengthening the capacity for planning and coordination of projects at the MHSA;
• Coordination of support of Japan in the field of health;
• Harmonization of the intervention of Japan with the other partners.

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Official Development Assistance (ODA) of Japan focuses on improving basic social services mainly health. The strategic importance justifies the strong support that the Japanese Government attaches to the health sector in Senegal since 1976. Today, several technical and grant aid projects of JICA are being executed. To facilitate relations between the two governments and extend cooperation in the formulation of national policies and strategies dedicated to this sector, a technical advisor is assigned to the Cabinet of MHSA. His mission is to help coordinate the program for the Strengthening health system.
His main activities are summarized below:

• Attend meetings of the MHSA;
• Provide advice and suggestions on the policy in general to MHSA;
• Provide guidance in the formulation of new projects requests and activities in the sector of health;
• Attend meetings of the Technical and Financial Partners (TFP), provide advice and promote cooperation with other partners;
• Provide advice on the orientation of JICA new projects.
