OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

Ensure adequate training of personnel responsible for maintenance of medical equipment and enhance the skills of technicians and engineers of hospital structures of the Francophone countries of ECOWAS:

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Ministry of Health and Social Action (MHSA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the West African Health Organization (WAHO) conducted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for tripartite Cooperation in 28th October 2009 on the implementation of a development program of improvement the biomedical equipment for the five year period 2009-2013.

The holding of these training sessions has yielded the following results:

  • Strengthening technical capacity of maintenance technicians of health structures in the targeted countries;
  • Improvement of the safety of patients, users and equipment;
  • Improvement of the quality of care given to people by making available and reliable medical devices in health facilities in targeted countries ;
  • Changing the managerial system in hospitals by using the 5S-Kaizen-TQM approach.

This training was attended by 12 trainees each year from countries mentioned above, it has promoted the South-South cooperation and at the same time, Africa-Japan cooperation.
