PROJECT SUMMARY

The capacity development is essential in Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy of Japan in favor of Africa because it is a vector of socio-economic development. It is in this context that this training project was initiated.
It allowed participants:

  • To acquire skills to enable them to formulate effective preventive measures against coastal erosion
    through basic knowledge of the mechanisms of coastal erosion and the lessons learned in Japan;
  • To acquire skills and knowledge on methodologies for monitoring, calculation and design of structural measures;
  • To acquire technical knowledge to make recommendations to policy makers;
  • To study intersectoral collaborative measures with stakeholders.
In addition, this training was rich in facilitation mechanisms specially developed in collaboration with the most important organizations of Japan, and field visits precisely at sites that have experienced significant adverse effects of coastal erosion and for which adequate measures have been implemented, which helped to increase the knowledge of participants (at the rate of thirty ten per year for a period of three weeks during three years) and find possible solutions to the threat represented by the coastal erosion in Senegal.
