OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

This project aims to improve the habits of hygiene and sanitation and access to adequate sanitation facilities in rural areas. It also aims to end defecation in the open air by promoting the use of latrines, and popularization of sanitation infrastructures conforms to access to sanitation facilities standards.

PROJECT SUMMARY

As the strategy of Official Development Assistance (ODA) of Japan in Africa announced at the Fifth International Conference of Tokyo on the Development of Africa (TICADV), Japan supports the efforts of the Government of Senegal for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals for sanitation in rural area.
After first phase of implementation in 16 pilot villages, concrete results that go in the direction of achieving total sanitation, extension of sanitation facilities and the development of a monitoring / evaluation was obtained.
Thus, these achievements have extended in 30 villages to develop an outreach strategy.
This project involves the participation of the population through the approach« Community Led Total Sanitation » (CLTS).
In addition, the collaboration between japanese experts, senegalese stakeholders and communities has led to these real progresses.
