Emergency Program for Supply Drinking Water to Cope with Climate Change

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

This project aimed to improve the supply of drinking water in Senegal by providing equipment needed to supply emergency water (reclamation drilling operation for sustainable access to safe drinking water) and the management, maintenance hydraulic systems, including technical assistance in connection with the facilities provided.

PROJECT SUMMARY

This project is part of the « Cool Earth Partnership » initiated by the Government of Japan in 2007 in the context of a comprehensive and effective approach to the problem of Climate Change. With a total cost of 1 billion Yen, about CFA 5 billion, this program has achieved the following results:

  • The upgrading of about 80 motorized boreholes located in rural areas mentioned above through the renewal of pumping equipment: pumps 80, 83 engines and generator sets;
  • The acquisition of equipment for the maintenance of hydraulic structures 37 tankers, 11 vehicles pickup, 11 pick-up vehicles, 11 trucks cranes and hydraulic cranes, a large batch of response equipment (cameras drilling, compressors, welding machines portable, GPS, tool kits);
  • Strengthening technical capacity of counterparts in the maintenance of hydraulic systems by 5 japanese experts in most sites.
