OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

Strengthening capacity of the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure staff in the implementation and management of a strategic plan for the tourism development

PROJECT SUMMARY

Tourism sector in Senegal is considered as a very important sector, because it is an important source of income. The Government of Senegal has demonstrated a strong commitment to develop this sector. This strong commitment of the Senegalese Government has just meet with the strong determination of the Japanese Government; that was realized during the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICADV), held in June 2013 in Yokohama at Japan; when it was announced the organization of 10 tourism exhibitions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) and also the training of 700 persons in touristic industry. In order to facilitate the relationship between the two governments and extend the technical cooperation in the formulation of policies and national strategies dedicated to this sector, an expert was assigned as an advisor to the Department of Studies and Planning (DEP). His mission is to encourage a strategic development of the tourism in Senegal.

His main activities are summarized below:

  • Support to the development of the Strategic Plan for the development of a Sustainable Tourism in Senegal;
  • Give advice to the Department of Studies and Planning (DEP) on the planning of the development of tourism in Senegal;
  • Support to the realization of the tourism statistics in Senegal.
