JICA Volunteer Program

Hello everyone!

I am Kazune Kodama, and I am working as a baseball coach for the Sri Lankan school children under the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers in Sri Lanka, since August 2021. There were some twists and turns before I was dispatched due to COVID - 19, but I am very happy to be here now!

During the waiting period in Japan, I was always concerned about the pandemic situation in Sri Lanka, but I started online lessons for Sri Lankan children, believing that I could come here. However, the situation in Sri Lanka still remains unfavorable today, as schools are yet to be opened gradually. Nevertheless, the children are working hard from home to learn, study and even practice sports online with me. Despite everything, all they are looking forward to is, going outside, meeting with their friends, and playing baseball with them. Moreover, I work with the hope that the situation here would soon get back to normal and these children would get to spend their childhood normally. So, today, October 1st is the "World Children's Day"!

…and on this day, I hope these children would not lose their hopes and dreams, despite the difficult situation. I wish to do my best to support all children find their dreams through my activities!

Dear people of Sri Lanka,
Work together with me.
Let's work with hope for our children.
Let's keep moving towards that "dream"
