Dar es Salaam is a commercial city and home of about 2.5 million people. Inadequate supply of electricity in this city is becoming an obstacle to the development as the population expands. New and improved facilities are needed to supplement the current infrastructure in order to ensure stable supply of electricity that can adequately meet the demand for the size of economy.

Under the Project for Reinforcement of Transmission and Distribution Facilities in Oysterbay Substation, a new substation will be constructed at Oysterbay area to become the primary substation for some of the areas in Dar es Salaam. Additionally, high-voltage transmission line will be strung from Ubungo substation to the newly erected substation in Oysterbay. It is expected that this Project will bring benefit to the 229,000 residents in the northern region of Dar es Salaam. The Project will also decrease the circumastances of power failures and voltage drops to a great extent because the new facility will ease the load in other substations and thus the city's electricity system will be able to serve for longer service life.
