T Capacity Development for Local Government TrainingDodoma May 2008 to Dec. 2010 Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government(PMO-RALG) 150

The Decentralization process was started in Tanzania in 1998 by transferring the political and administrative power from the central government to the 133 local government authorities. However, even after a decade the capacity of local governments remain inadequate. There is an enormous gap between what was envisaged and what is in reality.

This Project is providing the Government of Tanzania, especially PMO-RALG with assistance to coordinate a wide range of stakeholders for the capacity improvement of local government workers as well as advices to formulate a training strategy for them and strengthen the functions of the Local Government Training Institution to implement the strategy.

Currently, there is one JICA expert as well as PMO-RALG counterparts involved in the Project in Dodoma.
