In the process of decentralization, the regional governments play a vital role in coordination between the central government and local governmental bodies. From 2001 to 2007, JICA has provided assistance to the health administrations in the Morogoro Region, which aimed to improve the capacity of 6 Council Health Management Teams (CHMT) and of the Regional Health Management Team (RHMT) which is to monitor and supervise those districts.

Building on those experiences, the current project focuses on regional health administrations in 21 regions with the aim of strengthening their function to bridge the gap between the central and district level governments.

We have four JICA experts working at the Health Sector Reform Secretariat under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW).
