Because of the serious situation of HIV/AIDS infection in Tanzania, a large number of donors and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are involved in activities for HIV/AIDS Control. Because of the variety of organizations involved, the training curricula and teaching materials for counselors as well as the recordkeeping and reporting tools differed widely, therefore making it difficult to ascertain the situation at the national level.

This project is coordinating and improving training curricula, and establishing a standard procedure for services and spreading it. It aims to standardize training and improve the quality of services. With an additional focus on sexually transmitted infections, the project has supported formulating new national guidelines, developing training curricula, training packages and service support materials.

Two JICA experts are working with Tanzanian counterparts in the National AIDS Control Programme of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
