Over the last 10 years, the number of vehicles in the city has grown at an annual rate of 7%, which is higher than the population growth rate. As a result, the traffic jam in central city has been worsening every year. Gerezani Area Road (Bandari street and Gerezani road), is one of the key road for the accessibility to the central business areas of the Dar es Salaam city. The alleviation of traffic jam on this road will make a major contribution to the economic, environmental and social sustainability of the city.

The project for Gerezani Area Road was evaluated as a high priority project in Dar es Salaam Transport Policy and System Development Master Plan 2008/2018 supported by JICA.

The objective of the Project is to secure smooth and reliable transportation and to meet increasing transportation demand in the central area of the Dar es Salaam City in the United Republic of Tanzania by constructing a steel girder bridge with four (4) lane carriageways.
