Wami / Ruvu Basin, which includes big cities, such as Dodoma, the capital, Dar es salaam, the commercial city, and Morogoro, has vast resources for water supply in Tanzania, and the increase in water demand will be expected in view of the on going economic growth.

However, at the basin, water resources especially the amounts of groundwater available and water demands of various sectors are not clear, and as a result suitable water-resources management is not performed.

So, in this project, elucidation of the mechanism of the water-resources potential (mainly groundwater) and water usage, creation of a hydro-geological map, improvement of monitoring systems of water resources and coordination works of water rights, and decision of integrated water-resources management and development plan are being carried out for the basin area.

In this project, a total of 16 study members are working together with the staff of the Department of Water Resources, Ministry of Water, and those of the Wami/Ruvu Basin Water Office.
