JICA has been conducting field activities to improve sanitation and hygiene through projects to improve water supply and dispatch Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, mainly in African countries. Therefore, to continue such activities through more effective manners, JICA would like to accumulate knowledge about hygiene and disseminate it.

The objectives of the survey are as follows

(1) Conduct pilot activities in Sub-Saharan Africa (including Tanzania) and South Asia in collaboration with an international NGO and contribute to hygiene improvement in schools and health care facilities in developing countries.

(2) Based on the results of the pilot activities, compile the findings and knowledge on hygiene improvement and disseminate the outcomes internationally including the pilot countries.
