Beneficiaries of JICA Training Programs to Hold Their Activity: A Visit to A JICA-Supported Local Governance (O&OD) Project in KISARAWE District on 25th September, 2020

The JICA Alumni Association of Tanzania (JATA) will visit one of JICA's technical cooperation projects with the Government of Tanzania, namely the "Opportunities and Obstacles to Development (O&OD) Project", at Homboza, Chambazi, and Msimbo Villages in Kisarawe District, on Friday 25th September 2020. The details of the observation visit are as follows:

Date: 25th September, 2020
Time: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Venue: Kisarawe - Coast Region Tanzania
Guest of Honour: Ms. Jokate Mwegelo - District Commissioner, Kisarawe District

The President's Office - Regional Administration and Local Governments (TAMISEMI), in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has been implementing the above project for the last 10 years (Phase 1: 2009-2014, Phase 2: 2015-2021). The Project has exhibited a number of good practices on its activities through community participation. Through the Project, an approach called "Improved O&OD" has been established and utilized, which is a planning and monitoring methodology whereby community members can build a collaborative relationship with Local Government Authorities (LGAs) for their development by planning, managing, monitoring, and evaluating their plans together with the LGAs.

This visit of the Project will be an opportunity for JATA members to know how community initiatives are organized and promoted by listening from community members. The questions will be; how they identify their challenges in their respective villages; how they gather information and knowledge; how they discuss what they can do by themselves; what they have achieved so far; and hence how they get support from the concerned LGAs.

This activity is one of the activities, which are organized by JATA annually, and is open to all members of the Association. JATA is planning to hold other interesting activities this year including a Zanzibar Public Relations Event, a Zonal Meeting, etc. These events and activities are open to anybody who had the opportunity of training in Japan or third countries under the auspices of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
