Ex-participants of training programs sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 5, 2021 under the auspices of their association, the JICA Alumni Association of Tanzania (JATA).

The association's Annual General Meeting was graced with the online participation of H.E. GOTO Shinichi, Ambassador of Japan to Tanzania and Mr. YAMAMURA Naofumi, the Chief Representative of JICA Tanzania Office.

On his part the Chief Representative of JICA Tanzania encouraged JATA members to keep on utilizing the knowledge and experience they obtained from Japan or elsewhere for the country's development, underscoring that this was the core objective of JICA's training programs.

Cognizant of the prevalence of the dreaded Covid-19 in many parts of the world, this years' AGM of the Association was held with a difference. While 35 members physically attended, 10 others participated through on-line technology, thus explaining how innovative the association had become.

Many issues were discussed at the AGM, however most of the issues centred on experience sharing but specifically on how the ex-participants could share and utilize the knowledge and skills they acquired from the training programs. In this regard, they resolved to hold a Public Relations activity in Zanzibar later this year during which they would explain their activities to the general public there.

Moreover, the members also resolved to visit several JICA - supported projects in the country thus enhancing the friendship between the people of the two countries. JICA currently supports a number of projects including the Project for Widening of New Bagamoyo Road in Dar es salaam, the Project on Strengthening Manufacturing Enterprises through Quality and Productivity Improvement (KAIZEN) Phase 2, the Project for Development of Malindi Fish Landing and Marketing Facilities in Zanzibar, the Project for Strengthening DADP Planning and Implementation Capacity through Use of SHEP approach etc.

This year's AGM took place one day after JICA organized a networking event which brought together some members of the Japanese private sector and ex-participants of JICA training programs. About 20 participants joined the event physically and about 13 others joined the event on-line. This number includes persons who attained their Masters' degree courses in Japan through the African Business Education (ABE) Initiative Program and others who attended short and long - term programs in Japan and in other countries.
