Statistics of 40-year History of JICA Volunteer Program in Thailand

In July 1981, the first volunteer was dispatched to Thailand, and, until now, 1,077 volunteers have been dispatched in various areas (68 provinces) in Thailand. The specialized fields of volunteers are also rich in variety (120 Fields).

The needs of society in Thailand have changed with the passage of time. The fields of JICA volunteers also have changed to meet the needs.

"10 Facts about the JICA Volunteer program in Thailand"

  1. The first dispatch was in year 1981 to Songkla province
  2. We started by dispatching JOCV (junior volunteers at that time) until 1997 and after that started to dispatch SV (Senior Volunteers) as well
  3. Until now 1,077 volunteers have been dispatched to Thailand
  4. Until now we have dispatched to 68 provinces throughout Thailand
  5. The top 3 of most dispatched provinces are
    - Bangkok 240 volunteers
    - Chiangmai 89 volunteers
    - Khon Kaen 54 volunteers
  6. The year with the most dispatches was JFY2005 with 66 members
  7. The field with the most dispatches is Japanese Language Education (with total 297 members currently)
  8. The newest field for dispatch was Softball in 2018
  9. The 3 main schemes in which we are currently considering dispatching volunteers to Thailand are
    - Industrial Human Resource Development,
    - Sustainable Industrial Development of Rural Regions,
    - Assistance for the Socially vulnerable
  10. The program aims for knowledge sharing of both countries to ensure sustainable growth and cultural exchanges
