Message from the Director General

Thank you for visiting the JICA Tokyo Center (JICA Tokyo) website. My name is TANAKA Izumi, Director General of JICA Tokyo.

COVID-19 is currently spreading like wildfire throughout the world. It seems that we have no choice but to find a way to live in this new era alongside COVID-19, with which we have no experience. We might be forced to think again about the meaning of the word "global" and related trends as we move ahead. What seems to be needed now for the sake of the future is for all of the people of the world, in their various respective locations, to confront these difficult times and consider what we might be able to do about them.

JICA's organizational vision is to "lead the world with trust." JICA, with its partners, will take the lead in forging bonds of trust across the world, aspiring to a free, peaceful, and prosperous world where people can hope for a better future and explore their diverse potential as individuals.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in 2015. These goals require all the people of the world to work together to achieve a society that "leaves no one behind." In this era in which we are forced to live alongside COVID-19, how can we leave no one behind as a society? I believe that the key to this puzzle lies in trust between countries and between people, and in the mutual effort to find a way to get through this together in an environment of trust.

JICA Tokyo was established to serve as a hub that connects people primarily in Niigata Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture, Tokyo Metropolis, and Chiba Prefecture with people in developing countries and regions. In cooperation with all of these parties, we aim to "lead the world with trust" in this new COVID-19 era.

Please feel free to drop by JICA Tokyo. We always welcome your visits and inquiries.

TANAKA Izumi
Director General of JICA Tokyo
