JICA hands over border control equipment to Uganda Revenue Authority

Over the calm waters of Lake Victoria in Munyonyo on the sunny day of Wednesday 14 April 2021, JICA completed the official handover of boarder control equipment to Uganda Revenue Authority (U.R.A) presided over by H.E Ambassador of Japan to Uganda who was represented by Mr. Mizumoto Horii; the Deputy Head of Mission.

The equipment worth 1.7 billion shillings that includes a surveillance boat, patrol cars, portable Raman Spectrometers, buggage x-ray scanner, drug detection test kits and laptops, is meant to facilitate trade and enhance border control capacity of the tax authority.

While handing over the equipment to the URA commissioner General, JICA Chief Representative; Mr. Fukase Yutaka re-affirmed Japan's commitment to collaborating with URA in support of trade facilitation and security, and ultimately economic development of Uganda in spite of many challenges with COVID19 pandemic being the latest.

On their part, the Commissioner General represented by Ms. Patience Rubagumya expressed gratitude towards the support showcased by the people of Japan and emphasised that this would go a long way in boosting U.R.A operations.
