JICA and UTM jointly conducted a special lecture on "Industrial Development & Japanese Management"

On 6 March 2023, JICA and Technical University of Moldova (UTM) conducted a multidisciplinary seminar on "Industrial Development & Japanese Management".

For the special lecture in Moldova, JICA invited Dr. Gaku Funabashi, Associate Professor of the International University of Japan and JICA Senior Advisor. The lecture was hosted by UTM's Faculty of Economic Engineering and Business and more than 80 UTM students and professors participated in the event.

In the beginning, Prof. Dr. Rafael Ciloci, the Dean of the Faculty made an opening speech by saying "The purpose of this lecture is to learn the features of Japanese management and experiences which differ from Western ones that we usually learn here. I hope students are going to utilize this precious opportunity". After being introduced by Prof. Ciloci, Dr. Funabashi delivered his intriguing presentation on the said topics by showing good example cases to help students understand the concepts.

During a question-and-answer session, some participants raised questions about Japan's corporate culture that helped promote economic growth through industrialization. In response to these questions, Dr. Funabashi explained "Japanese KAIZEN mind" that continuously improves the quality of productions and services based on a bottom-up approach and "building trust amongst employees" that underpins information sharing as well as innovations.

After the lecture, Prof. Ciloci kindly showed his gratitude to Dr. Funabashi and JICA Ukraine Office. Also, we were glad to hear from some students that "It was interesting to learn Japanese management which was totally new for us. It would be great if we could have another opportunity in the future".

All agreed that we should continue our efforts to hold special lectures periodically. JICA Ukraine office, therefore, would like to keep close communications with UTM to deepen our partnerships in any way possible.
