JOCV Exit Interview – Yusuke Muroi

1. What is the most interesting experience you had while in Zimbabwe?

The experience that I could teach soccer in Zimbabwe.

I thought that the style of playing are totally different but now I understand the method of Japanese works in Zimbabwe because our team used Japanese football and we finished on 5th position suffering only one game lost in Division 2 league in Mashonaland Central. And I managed to introduce 3 players to D1 and Premier teams from next season.

2. What are some of the greatest achievements you had attained at your work place in Zimbabwe?

  1. I succeeded to send my players to D1 and Premier teams.
  2. My team which I supported last year won the 3rd at national level in COPA Coca Cola and 2 of them had been to SA as a part of national team.

3. What is the biggest challenge that you have faced during your work activities and how have you handled it?

There was no soccer team when I was dispatched to University even National Sports Academy.

That's the biggest challenge for me but I managed to organize my own tournament before soccer season and select young talented players as a part of my team called BUSE FC, then I've brought them up by my coaching. So that is my solutions for establish my team. And at the same time, I've got my assistant coach so that he can take over my role. In my opinion it's my duty as a JOCV because our program is not giving money but giving our technic, knowledge and so on. So I hope BUSE can manage my team themselves then in the future, I hope National Sports Academy can create their own club with using my way.

4. Which is the most interesting place that you have visited in Zimbabwe? And Why?

It's definitely CHINOYI CAVES and I think VIC Falls I've never been to there yet
