This August, JICA Zimbabwe welcomed 4 new Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs) who arrived in the country on 26 July 2022. The new JOCVs, Mr. Takuya SHIMADA, Ms. Ikuko SEKI, Mr. Reiji MASUDA and Ms. Tsubasa ADACHI spent the month in Harare for orientation and local language training. They also visited their line ministry and parastatal, that is the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education and Sports and Recreation Commission. Following this, they were dispatched to their places of assignment.

Mr. Reiji Masuda (Judo coach) and Mr. Takuya Shimada (Soccer coach) paid a courtesy call to the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) on August 16. They were received at the SRC Headquarters in Harare by the Acting Director General Mr. Sebestian Garikai and the Acting Director Sports and Recreation Development Mr. Martin Dururu, who outlined that they expected the volunteers to increase participation of youth in sport and to help improve the performances of athletes. This is in line with the goal of seeing athletes participate at international and regional sporting events such as the Olympics, as envisioned by the Government of Zimbabwe's economic blueprint National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1). Also present in the meeting were the Judo Association of Zimbabwe President and Vice President Mr. Smart Deke and Mr. Keith Petersen respectively.
