Pilot project in the north-central province to effectively utilize low-lying wetlands to increase food production

JICA Burkina Faso is implementing a pilot project in the north-central province to effectively utilize low-lying wetlands to increase food production. Based on the distribution of available water, we are planting nutritious edible trees such as baobab and moringa in addition to cultivating crops such as kidney beans and sesame seeds, while utilizing a database on the distribution of low-lying wetlands created in past JICA technical cooperation projects. These activities are carried out autonomously by farmers in 12 districts of the north-central province under the guidance and advice of agricultural and rural development advisors.
