In Djibouti, JICA Long Term Training Program(LTTP) ex- and new participants program deepened their connections by sharing enriching study abroad experiences!

On September 19, 2024, “LTTP Report Meeting, Send-off Ceremony and Networking Event” (For ABE Initiative, SDGs Global Leader, and Kizuna Program) was hosted by the JICA Djibouti Office in a face-to-face manner.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Keiichi Hara, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Djibouti, expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to interact with ex- and new participants from Djibouti. He also expressed hopes that this event would strengthen the bonds between event attendees and serve as an opportunity to further enhance relations between Japan and Djibouti.

In the following session, five ex-participants who have just completed their program shared their experiences and learnings from Japan, as well as their thoughts on future co-creation with Japan. They offered advice and encouragement to the new participants who would soon be departing for Japan.

Encouraged by the support from ex-participants, three new participants who will begin their study abroad in Japan this fall expressed their expectations for life and research in Japan. They also declared their determination to contribute to strengthening the relationship between Japan and Djibouti as a bridge between the two countries.

In closing remarks, Abdoulkader Aden Elmi, Chairman of JICA Alumni, expressed gratitude for the contributions of LTTP to the development of the country and offered warm encouragement to the new participants. Then, Mr. Masayuki Kaneda, the Chief Representative of the JICA Djibouti Office, thanked the event attendees and expressed his wish for the event to greatly benefit their future endeavors.

Through this event, the ties between Africa and Japan were further deepened, marking a new step towards future business development.

JICA will continue to support current- and ex-participants of the JICA LTTP, while strengthening networks and promoting collaboration with Japan. JICA is committed to fostering more talent to serve as a bridge between Africa and Japan.

Target Programs:
  • African Business Education Initiative for Youth (ABE Initiative):
This program offers opportunities for African youth to study at master's courses in Japanese universities, experiencing internships at Japanese companies and organizations.
  • SDGs Global Leader:
This program is provided for young or middle Government official, prospective academics, personnel in developing countries who are expected to contribute policy formulation and/or implementation for tackling sustainable developmental issues to mainly in the fields of public policy / administration and economics.
  • Kizuna Program:
A training program aimed at developing key personnel in resource development, targeting government officials in the mining sector of countries with resource potential, as well as prospective university faculty members who will produce talent in this field.
