With Passion for Protecting Lives from Industrial Accidents

“For Reduce the Industrial Accidents, with this strong passion in mind,15 participants from Bhutan, where is in the midst of a construction boom, completed a three-week Knowledge Co-Creation Program (KCCP) in Japan. This team consists of government officials, governmental construction corporation, and private construction enterprises engaged in the field of occupational safety and health.

This KCCP program is aimed at protecting Bhutanese construction workers and engineers from industrial accidents. The curriculum was developed with the cooperation of the Infrastructure Development Institute-Japan, as well as many lecturers and other related organizations. Participants learned about occupational health and safety standards in the construction industry, monitoring and management systems, risk assessment, education and training systems, and other major hazard prediction and accident prevention measures at construction sites from various angles through lectures, observation, practical training, and discussions.

The Bhutanese participants also had an opportunity for heartwarming communications with Japanese junior high school students, who visited JICA Tokyo as part of their work experience program. A participant from Bhutan ask one question to the Japanese students;

Q: "Japan is an economically developed country. We have realized it during our visit to Japan. What kind of society do you want Japan to be in the future?"

━A: "A society where no one is left behind, regardless of disabilities or differences in circumstances. I want Japan to be a society where welfare is fulfilled, and every one of us can live in peace.
━B: "I believe that a truly affluent society is one in which the dreams of each one of us can somehow come true in the future."
