Message from the Director General

Welcome to our website!
JICA Yokohama was established in the Minato Mirai area in 2002 and has long served as a hub connecting the people of Kanagawa and Yamanashi with the wider world.

One of the most distinctive features of JICA Yokohama—among JICA’s fifteen offices in Japan—is the Japanese Overseas Migration Museum (JOMM). Reflecting the organization’s origins as Japan’s former emigration service agency, the museum presents a wide range of exhibits on the history of Japanese overseas migration. These exhibits highlight the efforts, challenges, and achievements of Japanese people abroad, their descendants (collectively known as Nikkei), and the communities in which they live.
We believe that learning about their history can help prompt thinking about multicultural coexistence and cross-cultural understanding in today’s Japan and the world.

In addition to the museum, JICA Yokohama hosts various training courses for our partner countries, and is home to a Library and the JOMM Reference Room with an extensive collection of books and materials on international cooperation, Japanese language education, and the history of Japanese overseas migration. Visitors can also enjoy food and drinks from around the world at the Port Terrace Café, which offers scenic views of the Bay Bridge, the Red Brick Warehouses, and cruise ships on the harbor. The building also features a gallery where visitors can learn more about international cooperation and current global issues.

Located in an area with rich cultural and commercial attractions, JICA Yokohama warmly welcomes you to stop by whenever you are in the neighborhood.
