Emergency Assistance to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Response to the volcanic eruption

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency relief goods as below in response to the volcanic eruption disaster, upon the request from the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

1. Disaster situation
The Nyiragongo volcano near the city of Goma in North Kive erupted on 22 May, has caused serious human and property damage. According to the DRC government and local media, the damage situation as of 31th May 2021 was as follows:
Deaths 32
Injured Unknown
Missing 215
Evacuees 416,000
Damaged houses 3,629


2. Goods supplied
A. Emergency relief goods (from the JICA warehouse in Dubai)
Tents
Plastic sheets
Portable jerry cans
Water purifiers

B. Shipping schedule
The goods will be transported from the JICA warehouse in Dubai to Goma on the next available flight and other transport.
